2019 American Legion Boys State Information for Madison County

The American Legion Posts in Madison County are pleased to announce the 82nd Alabama Boys State Convention.   This program provides an opportunity for outstanding students to experience democracy at work, enhance their leadership skills, develop new friendships and learn from Alabama political and business leaders.

The 2019 Boys State Convention will be held at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa Campus starting Sunday May 26,, 2019 and ending Saturday June 1, 2019.  Male students who have completed their junior year of high school in public, private or home school in Madison County are eligible to be selected by their school for this year’s convention.   The cost for the week long convention is $225.

We strongly encourage each candidate to review the Alabama Boys State website at:  http://alboysstate.org.  The attached brochure provides a brief overview of the 2019 Alabama Boys State program.   Please encourage your students to consider this opportunity. 

Each participant is required to fill out the 2019 version of the following three forms: Boys State Registration Form, Liability Release Form, Networking Acceptable Use Agreement. 

Each participant should plan to attend the Orientation Dinner at American Legion Post 237 on Tuesday April 23rd at 6:00 PM.  Post 237 is located at 2900 Drake Ave. SW, Huntsville, AL.  We will verify that applications and payment have been made.  We will also discuss what to expect and how to get the most out of this experience and review the logistics and rules. 

On Sunday May 26th at 7:30 AM, Post 237 will host a Departure Breakfast.  Bus transportation will be provided from American Legion Post 237 to Tuscaloosa and return transportation to Post 237 after Graduation on Saturday June 1st.   Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend both the Orientation Dinner and the Departure Breakfast.

2019 Boys State Overview

The 82nd Alabama Boys State Convention was conducted from May 26th through June 1st at the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa.  There were approximately 635 delegates from throughout the State of Alabama who attended the convention.  Seventy five delegates from 22 high schools and home school organizations in Madison County participated.  For the second year in a row a student from James Clemens High School was elected as the Boys State Governor.  Chris Baker is the 2019 Boys State Governor.  Madison County delegates were elected to 12 of the 31 state-wide positions and 5 Madison County delegates were runners up to the state-wide positions.
