Post 237 Military and Community Support Programs
The American Legion is committed to its mission to provide support to veterans, their families, the community, and the totality of the American Legion Family. The cornerstone of Post 237’s support is centered around teaching and demonstrating the spirit of “Americanism”. That spirit permeates all the programs sponsored or administered by Post 237.
JROTC/ROTC Support Program
- Scholastic Excellence and Military Excellence Awards
Post 237 presents Medals and Award Certificates in six Madison County and Huntsville Junior ROTC programs and Alabama A&M College ROTC program. Presentations are made at each school’s year-end ROTC awards ceremonies.
- Other Cadet Participation Opportunities
- Posting of the Colors at General Membership meetings (3rd. Monday).
- Participate in flag retirement ceremonies.
- Provide Color Guard for funeral ceremonies.
- Alabama American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program
- Placing wreaths/flags on graves during holidays.
Retired LTC John Murphy, Post 237 ROTC Liaison Officer, coordinates activities between the Post and the JROTC/ROTC Programs. During his military career LTC Murphy served as Assistant Professor of Military Science at Princeton University in New Jersey and participated in ROTC activities and exercises involving ROTC programs throughout the eastern US.
